Listen To The Rhythm Of Australia
Most Australian pop singers and rock groups are also extremely successful internationally. The most famous, former and still existing celebrities in Australia include groups like the Bee Gees, INXS, AC/DC, Men at work and Midnight Oil. The latter seeks to promote the interests of the Aborigines.
Their lead singer Peter Garrett became nearly a politician, then changed his mind and decided to go back to singing. However, he returned to politics and raised increasing awareness for the Australian Green Party. Singers such as Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan stormed the international charts in the 1980′s.
The group Dirty Three are playing a subtle, instrumental post-rock, which they decorate with melodies that sound like from a completely different world. The tone is kept, as so often in post-rock music, rather melancholic and thoughtful. The fact that Dirty Three incorporates elements into their sound skillfully, achieved them independence; and it is difficult to compare their songs with other post-rock.
Nick Cave is one of the most talented celebrities in Australia and an extremely gifted songwriter. He writes lyrics that are similar to poems; however, his words are often full of irony. Sometimes, his text is even darker than the night and can drag one down; at other occasions his songs encourage to think.
The former band Sebastian Hardie made quite an attractive art-rock. Everyone who likes the Moody Blues or Barclay James Harvest, and can make friends with some more rock elements, will be well served by this music group.
A typical Australian music style does not really exist. However, there are a big variety of beats; maybe more like elsewhere in the world where different cultures meet.
